HELP

What we are doing now is sending food and other needs to these areas and SEPI members such as, Juminar, Dwi, and pak Mur and Nursyam distribute them further to their neighbourhood. This is the most effective way because they know what they need, and who needs it most.

Juminar, a SEPI painter and his 3 month old daughter were forced to stay with other families in a tent.

Dwi's painting was still hanging on the wall, but fro how long?

The second day after the earth quake, we visited Imogiri where some Sepi members live. And we found that literally their houses were razed. They tried to saved anything that they could find from their houses.

Southern Jogja Flattened

Usually this blog is for the activities of Kelompok SEPI working with street kids. However, five members of Kelompok SEPI lost their homes after the earth quake. I lost contact with them (SEPI office is 15 Km from their homes). This morning at 2 a.m. I recieved an SMS message from Dwi Haryanta: "We need food, tents, and medicine."

Please help!
I leave for Bantul now only with $ 100 from our painting sales and few packs of instant noodles.

Giving fishing rods and showing the ponds

The old wisdom says: "Don't help people by giving fish. Give them fishing rod." I think it is not enough: "Give them fishing rod and show them the ponds". Most of the time people have fishing rod already but they don't have access to the fish ponds.

Yundhi, Ouda, Apri, Agus and Dafi of Kelompok SEPI together with Ninol of YPR were working with 20 youths from the four kampongs at risk preparing for Jogjakarta Art Festival. The first meeting of the workshop was on how to prepare canvas and how to mix color.
